Dismemberment Update for Day of Infamy now on Steam

Dismemberment Update for Day of Infamy now on linux mac pc

In case you missed it, #NewWorldInteractive has #released a #massiveupdate to Day of Infamy titled “The Dismemberment Update.” The update includes character dismemberment, a new map named Salerno inspired by the Avalanche map from Day of Defeat, and a multitude of new weapons across Linux, Mac and Windows PC.

See the update in action in the Salerno Stronghold gameplay video:

This is the first of only a few major updates planned for the game since it launched in July. New weapons include the Browning HP, Thompson M1A1, TNT/Sprengbuchse explosives, Panzerschreck, Nebelhandgranate and for co-op only the scoped M1C Garand and suppressed Sten Mk. V.

For a full list of changes, read the patch notes on New World Interactive’s blog post here.

For increased transparency while in Early Access, New World Interactive has outlined a roadmap for Early Access HERE.

Features

Strategic Gameplay
Intense core infantry mechanics and a simplified HUD create a highly visceral and immersive experience. With a reinforcement wave system tied to objectives, the game maintains an emphasis on teamwork and coordination.

Iconic WWII Battles
From the shores of Sicily and streets of Italy, to the forests of Belgium and Germany. And of course the Normandy beaches.

Historic Armies
The Allied infantry forces of the British Commonwealth and U.S. Army clash against the German Wehrmacht.

Authentic Arsenal
Depending on your team’s supply, you may customize and upgrade your gear and weaponry, affecting your appearance, weight, stamina, and movement speed. The game contains a full-range arsenal including bolt-action rifles, pistols, revolvers, submachine guns, heavy machine guns, grenades, and flamethrowers. Fix bayonets, extend magazines, or swap iron sights with period-specific customization options.

Teamwork Required
Officers can direct their team in the field. In addition to a wide variety of command options, they may call in fire support if a radio operator is nearby. Fire support options include artillery barrage and smoke screen. Local voice is used to talk to your teammates in the game, but be careful because the enemy can hear you if you’re too close. Radio operators also serve as a communication beacon to those around them, as HQ and radio operator chatter can be heard through them.

Day of Infamy is available now for $19.99 on Steam for Linux, Mac and Windows PC.

Day of Infamy standalone confirmed and coming to Steam Early Access next month

dayofinfamy-standalone-coming-to-linux-mac-windows-pc

Day of Infamy is the Insurgency mod based on Valve’s WW2 FPS Day of Defeat, which has now become a standalone #commercial #game (with Valve’s blessing) coming to Mac and PC, then #Linux. The developer behind Insurgency New World Interactive, launched the free mod with the help of community members, releasing the first version earlier this year. Now the team have expanding the game into a full and proper standalone game on the Source Engine. And with Valve’s support the team is making a few levels based on the originals from Day of Defeat. Which will be available on Steam Early Access next month.

The announcement trailer:

New World Interactive explain the details in a blog post:

“We always said from the very beginning there’s a chance Day of Infamy would become commercialized, however we were not sure whether we actually had permission to make the game as an openly spiritual successor to Day of Defeat. We were concerned that Valve would not be fond of us commercializing a game inspired on their IP.

After the mod version of Day of Infamy launched, we reached out to Valve to get their thoughts on the project. The original DoD creators checked it out and gave us their thumbs up. Valve offered to license Source Engine again to us so we could make the DoD-inspired game. They also encouraged us to make maps inspired by the classic DoD maps and provided permission to use art from their games. Although we had considered commercializing the game from the beginning, Valve’s positive response and licensing offer made the project a no-brainer to us. We had the opportunity to create an openly spiritual successor to the de facto WWII game many of us grew up on.”

Having hired some community modders, the New World Interactive are making their own take on the classic, control point-capturing FPS. And they are not using all the assets Valve offered, but plan maps based on DoD classics like Ramelle, Caen, Avalanche, and Thunder.

Day of Defeat originally started out as a free mod for Half-Life, before Valve bought the game and expanded content to offer a commercial release in 2003, then Day of Defeat: Source followed in 2005.
So yes, it has been a while. But a pleasure to see a cross-platform FPS developer such as New World Interactive expanding their creative talents to a slightly different genre.

Linux Support

Linux and SteamOS will be supported eventually. We are aiming for later in the year, 2016.

Day of Infamy is due to hit Steam Early Access for Windows and Mac in July.
