The Early Access version of Tainted Grail. Which also has a new patch with new cards, 2 new playable characters, with fixes and balance changes. Not only includes not one, but two games. The first is the beginning of a regular single-player campaign. Since this offers around three hours of gameplay. The second, Tainted Grail: Conquest, is a new game mode. This combines hardcore RPG mechanics with a dynamic gameplay experience taken from the roguelike genre.
This also bodes well with the Steam reviews. Boasting a solid 80+% Very Positive review rating. Since the game has been available for almost 4 months now. Just after release, we reach out to the developer regarding Linux.
It’s made in Unity. We don’t officially support Linux (it’s early access, we’re trying to make sure it properly works on most PCs). But we’ve heard that there’s no issues with the game and it’s playable while running Proton.
This all sounds well and good, but Tainted Grail doesn’t run well with Proton. In fact, it just starts, shows the menu, lets you create a character. Then that’s it, a black screen. And this is the same for many other players as well. Even though there was a moment of hope, after running the game using “wine Tainted Grail.exe”. Which does let you get past the character creation. But then you run into graphics rendering issue. Leaving the game unplayable.
Tainted Grail: Conquest – summoner highlight
Therefore, it’s time upvote Tux Love. And there is a Linux Support thread on Steam. With a developer comment stating, “It all depends on the game’s popularity and demand.” And being that Tainted Grail is successful. It’s time to increase that “demand” and Wishlist support on Steam. The turn based CRPG needs your support. So we can hopefully get the game on Linux with a proper native build.
Right now we’re optimizing the game and working on making it even better. After we’re done with that, then there’s going to come a time for Proton support and other things like that.
Also, if you don’t know, Tainted Grail, here’s the synopsis. This is a dark, open world fantasy RPG. All based on a deep story from one of the best board games (the biggest Kickstarter project of 2018!). While introducing a totally new experience crafted specifically for Windows PC. Full of stirring art and incredible non-linear story content. With gameplay offers a unique mix of discovery, challenge, and exciting cRPG character progression. As well as a deep, tactical combat system.
- A unique blend of roguelike and RPG.
- A randomly generated map invaded by all sorts of beasts, full of unique locations and surprising narrative tidbits that tie in with the game’s main campaign.
- New combat gameplay mechanics that stay true to the roots of a deep, tactical card game, but with dynamic, arcade-style pacing – a battle system based on character customization and development with various skills, decks, runes, and lots of items to try out.
- Fresh base-building mechanics: players will be able to change the game’s mechanics and carry over their progress during their runs by finding ways of placing and upgrading buildings in their village.
Tainted Grail turn based CRPG needs your support. Which also happens to be available with a 25% discount on Steam Early Access. Dropping the price down to $18.74 USD. But regular price on GOG Games in Development. While available for Windows PC, we need the game on Linux.
