THQ Nordic released some good news, since the publisher acquires the “Expeditions” IP – Linux, Mac and Windows. The acquisition of the intellectual property “Expeditions” has been finalized with Logic Artists. A studios that is based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
THQ Nordic acquires the IP
The deal comprises of “Expeditions: Conquistador” and Expeditions: Viking and its respective DLCs. Furthermore, Logic Artists and THQ Nordic have agreed to start development of a third game within the “Expeditions:”-Universe. More information will be coming in due time.
Since the company filed for bankruptcy following the release of Darksiders II. Along with the many licenses being going out across numerous companies.
Now, years later, it’s back and operating smoother than even before. Along with a number of companies under its wing (including Deep Silver, whom it sold some of its franchises to).
And Darksiders III is ready to release later this month. The studio is still going strong with further plans. Such as Bugbear Interactive, the studio behind the racing game Wreckfest. Which does work on Linux via Steam Play, although not the multiplayer.
Also Coffee Stain Studios, the creator of the hit game Goat Simulator. All now under THQ’s umbrella. Definitely more positive news than Microsoft acquiring Obsidian and inXile.
There are also 35 unannounced games in development (out of 55 total). We’ll see some familiar franchises make a return. These include Homefront, Saints Row and the previously announced Timesplitters. And also Kingdoms of Amalur franchises. This does not guarantee Linux support, but I’m hoping going forward to influence the publisher for Linux releases.
The acquisition itself is being handled by THQ Nordic AB, based in Karlstad, Sweden. While daily operations (sales and distribution, evaluation of sequels & new content etc.) will be done via THQ Nordic GmbH in Vienna, Austria.
About Expeditions: Conquistador (Linux, Mac, Windows)
Conquer the New world: In the 16th Century, Spanish explorers and soldiers reached the shores of America. The search for gold, fame, and adventure drove these travelers into a treacherous wilderness where they faced hunger, disease, and dangerous predators.
About Expeditions: Viking (Windows)
Circa 790 AD. A small band of Norse warriors lands on the shores of England. History may have forgotten their names, but their actions live on. As the chieftain of your clan, let ambition guide your choices in the party-based RPG Expeditions: Viking. How will history remember you?
So this is some good news, I would like to congratulate THQ Nordic and invite the publisher to release more Linux games. And hopefully bring about a more diverse catalogue of titles.
