Twilight Struggle, a “#challenging strategy #game of medium complexity” chronicling the entire Cold War, now available on #Steam for Linux, Mac and Windows PC. Thanks to a very successful Kickstarter campaign.
Originally release as a board game by Ananda Gupta and Jason Matthews back in 2005, Twilight Struggle is a PvP game that pits the United States and the former Soviet Union. Starting after World War II until the late 1980’s through a series of political and economic events taking place within a card-based game engine.
The game map is a world map of the period, whereon players move units and exert influence in attempts to gain allies and control for their superpower. The playable events in the game cover a vast array of historical happenings, from the Arab-Israeli conflicts of 1948 and 1967, to Vietnam and the U.S. peace movement, to the Cuban Missile Crisis and other such incidents that brought the world to the brink of nuclear annihilation.
Some of the in-game events include the Cuban Missile Crisis and multiple post-war Arab-Israeli conflicts. Which is really a study in asymmetrical gameplay that goes a long way to show just how close a fight it was between the world’s two superpowers.
Twilight Struggle is now available on Steam and well worth checking out.
