Veil of Dust: A Homesteading Game CRPG for Linux and Windows PC is due to get a demo this month. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of developer Calamity Bay Games. All in an effort to gear up for the Steam release in 2022.
Veil of Dust: A Homesteading Game‘s public demo is set to be released next week on October 12, 2021. Players can also expect 2-3 hours of gameplay. Since they have to survive in the historical deserts of the Oregon frontier. Fans of crafting, exploration and quippy writing with underlying depth will especially the release. And also find a lot to like in this charmingly hand-crafted farm sim. All developed by a husband and wife team over the past year. Mechanics include crafting, farming, foraging, hunting, fighting, and more. Taking inspiration from Stardew Valley and Rune Factory.
Plus the husband (Mike) is working on the Linux build right now. Veil of Dust: A Homesteading Game is developed in GameMaker Studio 2. So Mike is doing his best to ensure a native build for the Demo up and running. AND, he’s also been using Linux for over 10 years now, not bad. In the meantime, check out the features trailer below.

Áine and Shane Callahan, the game’s protagonists, are second generation Irish American siblings. Dropped by fate into the unforgiving deserts of the 1860’s frontier. Doing so after a tragic journey over the Oregon Trail. Join them as they navigate the challenges of building a homestead in Veil of Dust: A Homesteading Game. Taking on such a sparse setting as they journey beyond the veil. All due to discovering a world of magic, fae kingdoms, and dangerous monsters.
Casual Mode will be accessible to those new to management and survival mechanics. For those who are looking to engage more in the crafting and story aspects. Then Moderate Mode is for experienced survival game players. Those looking for more of a challenge.
I did manage to take the current build for a spin, thanks to Calamity Bay. Which is much better than expected. So you may want to keep your eye out and play the Demo.
