Volcanoids is a first-person, base building survival game for Windows, but Linux is in the works. Since developer Volcanoid is working on the Q1 2019 release. The recent Discussion post on Steam shows incoming support.
Taking place in the steampunk era, while you take on an expedition to a forsaken island, one that you once called home. But sudden eruptions start by a mechanical race of beings. While they turn this wondrous place into an apocalyptic wasteland.
Therefore, in order to survive the island’s natural elements, you have to outsmart these creatures. And also capture one of their drillships. Then use their own technology against them, while you upgrade the machinery and reclaim your homeland.
“Game is running, but skybox is missing and there are still some errors.
If everything goes well, we’d like to release Linux version shortly after PC, but I cannot guarantee it.”
So this indeed some good news. The game engine being used for developer is Unity 3D, naturally. Which also explains why Discussion for support is possible prior to release.
Volcanoids first person base building Trailer (Windows, soon Linux)
- Mobile Base
Take the vantage point, stay safe underground or choose a material-rich location and explore. The drillship is a unique kind of base capable of joining you on every journey.
- Deadly Environment
Experience the tension and thrill of surviving volcanic eruptions. Time between each eruption is your most valuable resource. Use it to roam the island gathering materials, finding new technology and utilizing production.
- Mechanical Menace
Deal with a hostile race of robots that use the volcano as a source of energy. Their units are scattered all around the island’s surface as well as below it. Plan ambushes and destroy structures that trigger the volcano.
- Base Management
Customize your drillship from the inside out with colors, symbols, gadgets and more. Automate production, research technologies, set up defenses and turn the drillship into an unbreachable powerhouse.
Volcanoids does look like a promising first-person (FPS) base building survival game. Since the release is coming Q1 2019, lasting for roughly 2 years, according to Steam. I want that Linux build too.
