The Waylanders hits Kickstarter goal

the Waylanders hits kickstarter goal for windows and linux

The Waylanders has hit their Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign goal on Windows, yet we have some good news about Linux support. So naturally Gato Studio is ecstatic to announce that time-travelling, fantasy RPG, is fully funded at $150,000.

Linux Support:

“We are building the game with the latest version of Unity and we want to make it work in Linux and / or Ubuntu with SteamOS.
However, we are a really small team so we have to prioritise first other versions of the game.

But yes, we will try our best to bring our project to as many platforms and OS as possible.”

The Waylanders has a Linux confirmation. While this is good news, the way I read the rest of the detail is “after the launch”. The a-typical launch on Windows first, then a native release. Seeing the studio will have to “prioritise” the releases. Which I would expect with a small studio and some solid funding.

Therefore the “really small team” at Gato is now preparing to dive headfirst into development. While working to bring to life the vision that their generous backers support. Not only that, the studios adds in some new stretch goals for backers to unlock in the last hours of the campaign. Which are mainly new companions.

Over the course of the Kickstarter campaign, Emily Grace Buck (formerly of Telltale Games) was freed from the shackles of her $200,000 stretch goal. While now be part of The Waylanders‘ team as a vital part of the script team. Focusing on the companions and relationships.

Also unlocking the addition of German in the campaign so far. Since this is accompanying the already announced English, Spanish, and Galician languages. With even more coming down the road.

The Waylanders Kickstarter Trailer (Windows, Linux)

After the original goal:

New stretch goals for The Waylanders just announced. This includes a brand new in-game scenario and three possible new companions. Important characters that can join your party. Companions are additions you can have close relationships with that will provide even more hours of gameplay with their own characters quests. The closer you become, the more quests you unlock. And the more important your companions become in the gameplay experience.

Perhaps one of the most asked questions of the Gato Studio team over the course of the Kickstarter campaign. They can also confirm that The Waylanders WILL be coming to Linux and consoles with more information coming soon.
