Technobabylon a retro-style, point and click #cyberpunk #adventure title from Wadjet Eye Games and #Technocrat (Linux, Mac and Windows PC).
The year 2087 is upon us — a future where genetic engineering is the norm, the addictive Trance has replaced almost any need for human interaction, and an omnipresent AI named Central powers the city. Its all-seeing CEL police force keeps tabs on everyone, including three people who are about to meet their maker.
Similar to most point & click games, the adventure comes in the solving of puzzles, gathering items, and communicating with in-game characters. From what we have hear thus far, the dialogue and voice acting are very well done, which creates personality (and feel) to the people you meet, considering it is a mostly character driven title.
Technobabylon starts out with an unemployed character Latha with anxiety disorder, who spends time in some fantasy world while locked inside her apartment. Putting you the player in the roll of having to use her Trance abilities, connecting with the electronics to escape. And these puzzles come with just the right amount of complexity and creativity to keep the player on their toes. Not to shabby for a demo and certainly more than you would expect.
- Charlie Regis, an agent of the city’s all-seeing secret police, finds himself blackmailed with the lives of his unborn children. Pushed to the limits by his deceit and his past, how far is he willing to go to save his legacy?
- Latha Sesame, a jobless agoraphobe addicted to the Trance, has become targeted for assassination. Without knowing who to trust, she must face the dangers of “meatspace” and survive a fate that has invisibly ruled her entire life.
- Max Lao, a tech-savvy case officer who joined CEL to forget her criminal past. Now she finds herself torn between two loyalties. When she’s asked to apprehend her best friend and partner, she must choose to follow her friend or the law.
Charlie Regis and Max Lao are CEL agents hot on the heels of Mindjacker (it as it sounds). Charlie the a grizzled veteran of CEL, an antagonist towards Central, the omnipresent artificial intelligence running the city. Max is the tech-savvy character and a supporter of Central.
The puzzles certainly do vary, so keep a mindful outlook for items and even things like drawers you can open. There were some blind-eye moments trying to figure out what to interact with and where items are hidden. Over and above that, we do not want to give to much away, it would ruin the story, for characters Latha, Charlie, and Max. All of whom have their pasts, to be forgotten, but come back to haunt them.
