Astro Protocol throws you into a fast-paced, tactical 4X showdown and you can already test it out with the game demo on Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. All this comes alive thanks to the creative firepower of Null Vector Studios. Which you can now find on Steam and itch.

Space is about to get a whole lot bloodier. Astro Protocol the tight, fast-paced, turn-based 4X tactical strategy title from Finnish indie crew Null Vector Studios is releasing into Steam Next Fest this October with an updated demo. And this time, they’re bringing in a brand-new faction: the ruthless Myrmidon Horde, ready to claw their way into galactic dominance.

If you haven’t heard of it yet, Astro Protocol isn’t your usual “take a week off work” kind of 4X. This beast is designed for fast, tactical showdowns that wrap up in about two hours. Every match is different thanks to randomized technologies, anomalies, and victory conditions. So no two conquests feel the same. Think Civilization meets FTL, but with sharper teeth.

Here’s what it’s all about: you’ll colonize and terraform planets, turning them into industrial machines, science hubs, or mining worlds to fuel your empire. Hostile rock? No problem, terraform it into something useful. Every colony links into your supply network, letting you push further into the void.

Then come the space stations. Build them near asteroid fields, gas giants, or stars for maximum output. Add refineries to juice up production, then terraform nearby worlds to complete your interstellar assembly line. When it all clicks, it feels like galactic engineering on steroids.

Of course, tech is the heart of the game. Astro Protocol has three randomized research branches, so you never know what unique tools you’ll unlock next. Maybe it’s new terraforming options, maybe it’s brutal ship upgrades. Guard your labs though, since tech isn’t just power, it’s plunder. Enemies can steal it if you slip up.

Speaking of enemies, let’s talk fleets and combat. You’ll be rolling out scouts, Corvettes for ambushes, Bulwarks to tank hits, and Battleships to smash through lines. Want to go big? Deploy Carriers or Oracles for long-range devastation. Each unit matters, each tile matters, and one wrong move can turn your fleet into space debris. Shields, armor, attack profiles, it’s a chess match where every mistake hurts.

And here’s the kicker for us Tux players: Astro Protocol is built in Unity and will launch day-one on Linux, with cross-play between Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. No waiting, no “maybe later.” We’re in from the start.

So, if you’re itching for a fast-paced, tactical 4X strategy game that’s as brutal as it is fast, grab the free demo of Astro Protocol now on Steam and itch. Just be warned: the galaxy doesn’t forgive hesitation. Plus a release date of Q1 2026.
