Necesse open world survival game gets a major update and new soundtrack on Linux, Steam Deck, Mac, and Windows PC. Big shoutout to developer Fair Games for his relentless hard work. Available on both Steam Early Access and Humble Store with 92% Very Positive reviews.
If you’re a fan of open world survival adventures where you can craft, battle, and team up with others, then you’ve heard of Necesse. Produced by Hooded Horse and Fair Games, it recently underwent a major update and massive overhaul. Here’s what you should expect on Linux and Steam Deck.
Adventures and Expeditions:
As a leader of a vast colony, you have the power to embark on quests and expeditions. With the new Necesse update, not only can you set off on your own, but you can also ask NPCs to accompany you. But remember, these fellow adventurers need sustenance, so always have some food handy for them. If they ever find themselves in a tough spot, they can use potions too.
The Big Challenge:
Ready for something even more challenging? The Necesse creators bring in a unique ending challenge. Here’s the catch: there’s a powerful wizard out there, and if you manage to defeat him, you’ll get tablets which can be used to build altars. These altars unlock even more quests, locations, and the gear to match. Think of it as a key to more adventures. The exciting part is that as time goes on, there’ll be even more additions to this end-game feature. Including brand new mechanics in different zones.

Music and Ambiance:
Who doesn’t like some good background music while exploring? Ten fresh musical tracks have been added, making every journey even more epic.
Magic Overhaul:
Magical weapons and gear have seen a revamp. Previously, if you used magical weapons, you’d notice they were pretty straightforward. Now, however, they’ll use mana. But Necesse has you covered with new accessories and potions to help replenish mana.
Necesse Extras:
A few more exciting additions include:
- A Miner settler who can venture out and bring back valuable ores.
- A Cartographer Table which lets you share maps. Think of it as a Google Maps for adventurers.
- The Necesse terrains and islands you’ll come across will look even more lifelike and natural.
- Settlers get bonuses from certain foods, so watch out for those.
- A bunch of other tweaks and improvements to enhance your experience.
