Oedipus/Antigone presents tragedies of Sophocles as a visual novel game for Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. Thanks to the amazing creativity of the folks at Febrvvm. Due to make its way onto Steam next month.
Febrvvm is bringing us Oedipus/Antigone, a visual novel version of Sophocles’ famous Theban cycle. This time, these classic Greek tragedies are getting a fresh adaptation on Linux.
So, what’s the deal? This visual novel includes three epic stories: Oedipus the King (or Oedipus Rex), Oedipus at Colonus, and Antigone. They follow the dramatic saga of Oedipus and his family. Now, here’s a fun fact: these plays were written over almost forty years and weren’t meant to be a trilogy. Antigone is actually the first one. While Oedipus at Colonus was Sophocles’ final work, staged after his death.
Oedipus/Antigone – Trailer
In Oedipus/Antigone, all the character outlines are marble statues, often looking a bit damaged. The solo developer chose this style on purpose. Ancient statues, even though originally painted, often appear to us today as broken marble. This look fits the tragic themes perfectly, adding a unique touch of beauty to the story.
The visuals in Oedipus/Antigone use the help of AI and that are fine tuned manually. The result is a stunning visual title that captures the essence of ancient Greece. Stepping back in time but with a modern twist.
You’ll be able to enjoy the English translation by Richard Jebb, presented in prose. Along with the original Ancient Greek text for reference. It’s a fantastic way to take on these timeless stories in a new format.
Mark your calendars because Oedipus/Antigone is due to release on June 6, 2024. This game is due to bring the ancient world to life in a way we’ve never seen before. Whether you’re a fan of Greek tragedies, or just looking for something unique, this game is worth checking out.
So, gear up for a journey through ancient Thebes and get ready to explore the tragic tales of Oedipus and Antigone. It’s due to release on Steam, June 6, 2024. Due to release on Linux, Mac, and Windows PC.
