Starcom: Unknown Space action RPG game of space exploration is due for 1.0 release on Linux via Windows PC. Thanks to further details from developer Wx3 Labs. Currently available via Steam Early Access with 92% Very Positive reviews.

If you’re a fan of space action adventures and building your own starship, then you’ve probably heard of Starcom: Unknown Space. This single-player, open-world space action RPG is the follow-up to the indie hit Starcom: Nexus. And it’s also been making waves since it entered Early Access in December 2022. With over 20,000 players already onboard, the game is gearing up for its 1.0 release. Doing so in time for Steam’s Space Exploration Fest on September 2, 2024. But….

Sorry, still no native Linux at the 1.0 date — players are reporting that it runs great under Proton. Some players have asked for native Linux, so it’s on the list (but not guaranteed).

Here’s the update from Wx3 Labs: Linux is technically on their radar, but it’s not going to be ready for the 1.0 release. The good news? It’s still on their list, so there’s hope for the future. Although, we still have Proton.

Now, what makes Starcom: Unknown Space action so addictive? It’s not just one thing — players are raving about everything from the vast, fully open universe to the innovative ship-building system. Imagine designing your own starship from the ground up. Then taking it out into a beautifully rendered galaxy where over 200 custom anomalies are just waiting to be discovered. That’s the kind of title this is.

One of the highlights is the tech tree, which is full with tons of weapons and special abilities to unlock. Whether you’re into fast-paced combat where you can shred enemies for loot, or you prefer to explore and uncover mysteries, this title has you covered. The sense of exploration is massive — every new star system feels like it could reveal something terrifying, weird, or just plain awesome. Sometimes, you might find all three.

And let’s talk about the story. It’s deep, it’s intriguing, and it’s full of twists. You’ll encounter alliances, betrayals, and a galaxy-spanning mystery that will keep you hooked. This isn’t just a shoot-em-up; there’s a rich narrative to dive into. Due to making every decision you make feels important.

With over 92% positive reviews on Steam, it’s clear that players are loving the action Starcom: Unknown Space has to offer. If you haven’t jumped into the space exploration yet, now’s the time. The full release is just around the corner, and it’s due to be one of the standout space titles of the year. Playable on Linux via Proton with Windows. Priced at $24.99 USD / £20.99 / 24,50€.

Starcom is the result of effort from Wx3 Labs, a team out of Watertown, MA. They’ve been in the game for a while—the first Starcom was a Flash game back in 2009. That quickly gained a cult following with over 2 million plays. They listened to their fans, and in December 2019, they dropped Starcom: Nexus on Steam and GOG, selling over 60,000 copies. Starcom: Unknown Space builds on that legacy, and from the looks of it, they’ve got another action hit on their hands.
